flyingreindeer2

Welcome my crafty friends!

Once again it is time for Elizabeth Craft Designs Team Designer Challenge.  Be sure to check out the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog to see what all the designers have created for this challenge.

Our challenge for October is A Merry Krista Christmas.  We are using stamps and coordinating dies from Krista Schneider‘s new release for this challenge.

The question of this month:
Which of the new Krista Schneider stamp sets would you use to create a Christmas card.
Here is how I created my card.
Step 1   Form card base 4-1/4″ X 5-1/2″ card base using white Soft Finish Cardstock.
Step 2  Cut white Soft Finish Cardstock 4″ X 5-1/4″ add Clear Double Sided Adhesive to top.  Remove protective covering a little at a time pouring Periwinkle Silk Microfine Glitter over exposed adhesive once covered with glitter tap off excess glitter polish with fingers.
Step 3  Using curved die From Joset Designs Sliders and Spinners place cutting edge down on glittered cardstock approximately 1/2″ in from left edge 1-1/4″ up from bottom right end should be approximately 1-1/4″ down from top – die cut slot.
Step 4  Lay glittered piece in position on card front lightly trace the arch remove glittered piece add piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive which is cut slightly larger that slot use Periwinkle Silk Microfine Glitter cover area on card front tap off excess polish in with fingers (by glittering this area it will be almost look seamless).
Step 5  Cut white Soft Finish Cardstock 1″ X 4″ add Clear Double Sided Adhesive on top using Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter pour over exposed adhesive tap off excess then polish with fingers.   Tear lengthwise to give snowbank effect.  Adhere to bottom of larger glittered piece.
Step 6  Using moon die from new Krista Schneider Reindeer set cut 1 moon from white Soft Finish Cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on top.  Remove protective covering add Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter tap off excess polish in with fingers. Color with yellow alcohol marker.  Adhere to upper right corner of glittered cardstock using Kids Choice Glue (I think it sticks better to glittered surface).
Step 7  From red cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on top die cut Suzanne Cannon‘s new Merry Christmas – small remove protective covering add True Red Microfine Glitter tap off excess polish in with fingers adhere to glittered cardstock piece lower right corner using Kids Choice Glue.
Step 8  Using Krista Schneider‘s new Reindeer Clear Stamps and Dies stamp reindeer using black ink compatible with alcohol markers on white Soft Finish Cardstock die cut using coordinating die set.  Color using alcohol markers.
Step 9  Cut 1/2″ – 3/4″ circle from white cardstock add 2 dimensional dots one on top of other.  Add dimensional tape on back of glittered piece being sure to stay away from slot as you want your reindeer to slide freely.  Place circle with pop dots behind glittered paper making sure the pop dots come up through the slot.  Adhere glittered cardstock to card front keeping pop dots aligned in slot.
Step 10  remove protective covering from top pop dot adhere your reindeer onto it.
I do hope you have enjoyed my tutorial today!

Welcome to my blog today!  Krista Schnieder has a new Christmas release at Elizabeth Craft Designs some very cute  clear stamps and coordinating dies.  My card today features the new set Christmas Kids.

Here is how it was created.

Step 1  Form 6″ X 6″ card base.

Step 2  Cut white Soft Finish Cardstock 5-3/4″ square.  Using 2nd smallest die from Susan’s Garden Notes Stitched Frame It – Ovals cut oval approximately 1″ down from the top.  Dry emboss.

Step 3  Cut piece of patterned paper a little larger than opening (I just die cut a piece using next larger die).

Step 4  Using small piece of white Soft Finish Cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on top fit it to sit inside of oval then tear top edge to give it snow bank effect.  Remove protective paper at Cool Diamond Microfine Glitter burnish in with finger.

Step 5  Using Kids Choice Glue adhere snow to bottom of patterned paper then add glue all around the very outer edge adhere to back of 5-3/4″ square behind oval opening.

Step 6  Using white Soft Finish Cardstock stamp image using black ink (Momento used here).  Color images using alcohol markers then die cut using coordinating dies.  Adhere image inside of oval using Kids Choice Glue ( it sticks better to glitter than tape).

Step 7  From blue cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on back cut BRRRRR using Suzanne Cannon’s BRRRRR die set then cut 1 snowflake from blue cardstock without adhesive on back.  Adhere to card front under oval opening.  Add pop dot to back of snowflake adhere on top of snowflake on BRRRRR.  Using adhesive clear sparkles add to snowflake.

Do hope you have enjoyed this tutorial today and will make your own card.  Be sure to visit Elizabeth Craft Designs for all the new Krista Schnieder’s new releases along with new release from Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s Garden Notes and Suzanne Cannon’s A Way With Words.  Below you will find links to all the Elizabeth Craft Designs products used just click on any picture which will take you to their site.

Our challenge this month is to use the Scissor Spring Mechanisms by Becky.  My card that I chose to do is an open box card that my friend just taught me I felt it was just perfect for these mechanisms.  I have taken lots of pictures to help with making card.

Here is how it was created.

Step 1  Cut white 100# Soft Finish Cardstock to 8-1/2″ X 10″.  With soft finish side down score the 10″ side at 2″; 3-1/2″; 6-1/2″ & 8″.  Turn and score on 8-1/2″ side at 1-1/2″ & 7″.

IMG_6196scissormech5

Fold on all score lines using a bone folder to make nice sharp creases.  Make cuts on all 4 corners per sketch – on 10″ sides cut on score lines to 3-1/2″ on 8-1/2″ side cut only to first score line removing corners.  IMG_6194scissormech4

You should have 3″ in center of 8-1/2″ side make a little mark at 1-1/2″ on each end.  Score on diagonal from mark down to score line on each side of marks see picture.

Crease well on these lines – they should be mountain folds.

Step 2  Now decorate your card before assembling. Using patterned paper decorate your card – cut 2 pcs.  3″ X 5-1/4″ – 1 for inside and 1 for back (which will be adhered after mechanism is in place) adhere using Clear Double Sided Adhesive.  For the 2 outer flaps they should be 2″ X 5-1/4″ but depending on score lines they may vary so should measure before cutting for best results.

Step 3  Decide where you want your mechanism on card . Place tiny die for slit on card base run through die cutting machine.   Using smallest Scissor Spring Mechanism die cut 1 set assemble.  place tabs from 1 end through slit you just cut spread tabs open adhere using Clear Double Sided Adhesive.  Adhere patterned paper to card back covering tabs.

Step 4  Using Kristen Schneider Patchwork Stamp and Die sets cut 4 bees from white Soft Finish Cardstock.  Color using markers.  Using bee die cut out bees.  On 2 of bees snip around wings to body keeping them attached but making them so wings will bend up.  Use a glitter pen to add sparkle to wing.  Attach one be on top solid bee just on body part of bee using Clear Double Sided Adhesive.  Add bee to mechanism using Clear Double Sided Adhesive.

Step 5  Using Joset’s Words 2 – Thinking of You die set from black cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive on back “Just” and “You” .  Adhere “Just” above the Bee and “You” below the bee.

Step 6  Add Clear Double Sided Adhesive to 4 corner flaps.  Dry fit by folding up to form box if you find that trimming is required to make flush with back of card do this before adhering.

IMG_6211scissormech10

Bring flaps around and adhere to sides forming box.  Gently push in top & bottom ends on fold lines so it closes flat – crease well.

Step 7  Cut strip of matching cardstock 1″ X 9″.  Wrap around center of card overlap in front.  Adjust to fit so that it is loose enough so will slide on and off but still hold card closed.  Trim off extra and adhere closed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive.  Adhere bee to band covering the overlap using Clear Double Sided Adhesive.

Optional Closure – use a small magnet as closure.  Adhere magnet to front left flap using Clear Double Sided Adhesive adhere one end of band to front over magnet wrap band around back  to front adjust length.  Add a die cut with a sentiment to free end of band and add magnet to back of die cut so it lines up with bottom magnet. This was done because I had a spot on flap which band covered but when band was taken off to open card you saw a big spot – there is always a fix for these boo boos.

I do hope you have enjoyed this tutorial today I know it is long but hope it is inspiring and you will make your own open box card.
